Sea of Thieves - A Pirate's Life

My role on Sea of Thieves is that of a 3D Marketing Artist. Using a broad range of disciplines, I created a lot of promotional key art and UI images. These are a few highlights from the Pirates of the Caribbean crossover update. Much of my work can be seen being used in the game itself and across various media.

Using the art team's assets and tools I would stage, light and create these images to help tell a story and excite players. These have been used as loading screens, in game UI and as promotional material. I would pose and light characters, stage scenes using kitbashing techniques, as well comp together renders in Photoshop.

The characters in the game are created using the art team's tool the "Infinite Pirate Generator". Character artists would create costumes, garments, tattoos, hair etc. and I would use this tool to create memorable pirates. As developers, we have more control over the build, ethnicity and facial structure of the pirates than players. It is our job to make the characters used in promotional material really sell Sea of Thieves.

This was my favourite piece of key art I worked on. I was responsible for the composition and lighting of the scene. I used the assets created by the art team to tell a story using the Flying Dutchmen as the main focal point.

This was another piece of key art I created. This was to demonstrate the Davy Jones themed cosmetics being added to the DLC store. I was responsible for the PSD comp and renders. I also generated the pirates, using the art team's tools and assets.

This piece was created to introduce the players to the new NPC character. She acts as a story teller to introduce the tall tales and turns out to be Calypso. I was involved in the composition, lighting and posing.

This was a comp I put together for the anniversary sale. Jack's crew costumes and Barbossa assets were rendered by another artist.

My main role is supporting the DLC store. These are the kind of comps I'd create to entice players to explore new products.

The ship images become pieces of key art in themselves. I was responsible for the lighting and composition of many of the Pirate of the Caribbean ship shots.

These were some of the toast UI icons I rendered for the game. These included keys for the Black Pearl as well as the Flying Dutchman.
